Tennessee Whips Vanderbilt 56-0

The much-maligned Tennessee defense stifled Vanderbilt and the Vol offense amassed 513 yards as Tennessee swamped the Commodores, 56-0, on Saturday night.

In a game played in a steady rain in Nashvillet, injured star quarterback Hendon Hooker was on the sideline as his roommate, Joe Milton, took his place. In his first chance, Milton led a four-play, 75-yard drive to pay dirt. Jabari Small covered the last three yards.

A second drive went 76 yards and consumed 11 plays with Princeton Fant bulling it in from the one.

In the second quarter, Dee Williams took a punt return for 76 yards to increase the halftime lead to three touchdowns.

Small had a 52-yard TD run early in the second half, then Jaylen Wright sped for a 50-yard score after Tennessee came up with a fumble recovery following a successful fake punt run by the Commodores.

Brentwood's Walker Merrill got in on the action, pulling in a catch at the back of the end zone to push the lead to 42-0.

The rout continued with Jaylen Wright taking it 83 yards to the end zone. Then Dylan Sampson burst through for an 80-yard score.

Tennessee was again without lanky receiver Cedric Tillman, and also missed Trevon Flowers, Brandon Turnage and Doneiko Slaughter on defense.
