The Lee University men’s basketball team used a 7-0 run to start the contest against the Sewanee Tigers on Saturday and never looked back as the Flames won 86-60 on Saturday afternoon during the Homecoming exhibition. Makhi McGuire led the Flames with 18 points.

After the Flames jumped out to an early lead, they continued to put on the pressure. They forced several early bad shots from Sewanee and made the lead 23-12 with 11:31 left in the first half. The last five minutes of the first half, the Flames hit four three-point shots to extend the lead out to 50-32 at the halftime break.
Lee shot 57.1% from the floor in the first half while Sewanee only was at 40%.

The second had more strong shooting from the Flames. They added three more three-point shots and went to the free throw lone 14 times making 11 of them in the second half. Collin Kuhl tried to keep Sewanee in the game scoring 26 points, but it wasn’t enough as Lee led by as many as 29 before ending up winning 86-60.

Lee used a well-balanced attack with nine players scoring five or more points on Saturday. Josh Lowe led the Flames in the paint with eight points as Lee outscored the Tigers 44-28 down low. Lee outrebounded the Tigers 42-24 in the contest with nine players grabbing three or more rebounds as well. The Flames had 18 assists to 11 turnovers and forced Sewanee to 14 turnovers.

Head Coach Bubba Smith was satisfied with the win but knows there still work to do. “We did a lot of things well today, but there is still work in some areas. The big thing was that we grew from last week’s scrimmage and now we need to grow with from today. Today we shared the ball very well and that was great to see but we still need to work on our defense as we great ready to head to Florida.”

The Flames will head to Daytona Beach, Florida next week to participate in the SSC/GSC Crossover. The Flames will play Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday, November 11 at 6 PM and Embry-Riddle on Saturday, November 12 at 6 PM.
