Marilyn Cates Cannon
Marilyn Cates Cannon, 72, of Soddy Daisy, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022.
She was born in Dover, Tennessee on May 17, 1950. She attended Austin Peay and later received her master’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She was an elementary school teacher for the Rhea County School System for over 38 years.
Marilyn loved spending time camping and traveling. She enjoyed photography and was always taking pictures around her.
She was a member of Mile Straight Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vesta and James Kent and her brother, Joseph Kent.
Survivors include her husband, Michael W. Cannon, Sr., four children, Alissa Cates Calhoun (Matt), Kim Cannon (Tim), Bryan Joel Cates, Wayne Cannon (Brandie), five grandchildren, Skyler, Easton, Anna, Grant, Kyla (Kyler), four great grandchildren, Karson, Kaisleigh, Sarah, Rory, brother, Randy Kent (Debbra), sister, Diane Patterson (Elmer), and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy Goss officiating.
Entombment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson.
The family will receive friends from 4–8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 18, at the funeral home.
