Chattanooga senior Yazz Wazeerud-Din was named the Southern Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Wazeerud-Din, a graduate transfer, had back-to-back double-digit games last week. She averaged 20 points per game with 19 in the Mocs win over Georgia State and a game-high 21 at Alabama. She shot 48 percent for the week from the field and 46 percent from the 3-point line.
At Georgia State she matched her season-high with six rebounds and posted a career-best six assists against the Panthers to go along with a pair of steals in the win.
The Marietta, Ga., native had was 6-of-13 from the 3-point line with three in each game and shot 75 percent from the free throw line.
Wazeerud-Din leads the Mocs in scoring and is second in the SoCon with 18.1 points per game. She leads the SoCon in minutes played, has a SoCon-best 27 3-pointers and is third in treys per game.
The Mocs take on Tennessee tonight in Knoxville at Thompson-Boling Arena. The game is set to tip off at 6:30 p.m. on the SEC Network+. Follow the action online at GoMocs.com.
