Thomas Moncrief

Reverend Thomas Scott Moncrief, 92, of Cleveland, Tn., went to heaven on February 24, 2022.

Thomas was born on Feb. 6, 1930, in Lafayette, Ms., to Tommie Pike and Bertha Irene Ellis Moncrief. Later the family moved to Memphis, Tn.

Tom was a graduate of Union College in Jackson, Tn.  He was a Southern Baptist Regional Director of Missions in Indianapolis, In. in the 1960s and 1970s. He later became the director of Missions of the Southern New England & Western Connecticut Baptist Association in the 1970s and 1980s.  He and his wife Martha moved to Cleveland in the early 1990s and became very active members at Cleveland Baptist Church of Cleveland where he became the Seniors pastor and served many roles for the church before retiring. Throughout Tom’s service of being a reverend he received many awards of recognition for his service and all that he did for the church and community.

Tom will be remembered as a kind and gentle man. He was a man with a heart for God and people.  It can truly be said, “He fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith.” Now there is a crown of righteousness the Lord will award to him as he joins his family in heaven.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, W.T. Gerald Grady, Thurman Ray, Oliver Russell; step-brother, Robert Dismukes; sisters, Margaret Louise Fitts, Jewel Irene Poteete and Peggy Joyce Poteete; his two sons, Russell Thomas Moncrief and Raymond Scott Moncrief, and the love of his life for 67 years, Martha Elizabeth Russell Moncrief.

He is survived by his brother, Billy Moncrief; cousins; five grandchildren: Delina, Lora, Anthony, Sherrus and Christian; eight great-grandchildren: Allyissa, Madison, Lily, Emma, Lexi, Havyn, Parker and Maddie; as well as many friends who loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be posted in the coming days.  A graveside service will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens after services have concluded.
