M. Edward Carroll, Jr., 80, passed away on March 29, 2022.
Ed was born in Greenville, SC. Ed was the son of the late Alma and M. Edward “Doc” Carroll, Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Carroll. He proudly served in the United States Army. Ed attended the McCallie School and Tennessee Tech. He had a long career and retired in 2001 from Bell South/AT&T after more than 30 years of service.
Ed had a love of sports. He coached little league for many years at Tyner Youth Association. Ed also loved trains and was a volunteer for the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. As one of his favorite hobbies, he built model train layouts and contributed to the museum at the Chattanooga Choo Choo.
After retirement, Ed’s passion was around his family, friends, and travelling. Ed and Nancy spent many years traveling the US and Canada. They took to a life of cruising. They have traveled the world on cruise ships, which took them to over 100 countries and all 7 continents. He loved to come back and tell stories of their adventures. Ed never met a stranger. Whether it was about traveling, sports, history, Jeopardy, or just the weather at that time, he loved to talk and share his life lessons.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Stacy Corbitt (Robert) and son Troy Carroll (Christie); granddaughter Kayla Carroll and grandson Riley Carroll, as well as many dear friends.
The family will receive family and friends from 4–7 p.m. on Monday, April 4, at Heritage Funeral Home – East Brainerd Chapel.
The graveside service will be held on April 5, at 12:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The procession will leave from Heritage Funeral home at 12 p.m.
