Torbett, Imogene Harrod (Riceville)

Imogene Harrod Torbett, 88, of Riceville, passed away at Hospice of Chattanooga Care Center. 

She was a lifelong resident of McMinn County, and was the daughter of the late George and Lou Ella Elliott Harrod. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Ross Harrod.

She was a member of Athens Church of Christ. She was a graduate of McMinn County High School and attended Tennessee Wesleyan University. She was associated with Cherokee Photo Service, was an attendant for Juvenile Detention Center and an aid in special education at Athens City Schools. She loved her family, attending church, traveling, camping, fishing, reading, visiting friends, playing cards and telling stories.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, W. Harstel (Bill) Torbett, of Riceville, who was also a loving father and grandfather; one daughter, Tamra Jeanne Hayes, of Farragut; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Connie Torbett, of Athens; four grandchildren, Lindsay Torbett Neubauer and husband, David, Tristan Keith Torbett and wife, Sharron, Laura E. Hayes and Emily K. Harrell and husband, Josh; two step-grandsons, Cory Bray and partner, Nicole, and Dustin Bray; two great-granddaughters, Jossie Bray and Madeleine Harrell; three great-grandsons, Tristan Bryant Del Moral, Xavier Jones, Weston Bray, and one on the way, Fyn Torbett; sister-in-law, Carolyn Harrod, of Etowah; one nephew, David Harrod and his wife, Renee, of Cleveland; one niece, Amy Harrod, of Knoxville; and one great-nephew, Ryan Harrod.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. on Monday, April 25 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, with Minister Mark Littleton officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be members of the Athens Church of Christ.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital-Tribute, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, Tn. 38148-0142. Imogene requests that no flowers be sent.
