Margaret Suzanne Ray Stanton, 86, passed away Friday, May 13, 2022 at Dominion Senior Living.
She was born in Harriman, Tn., and was a longtime resident of McMinn County. She was a daughter of the late Rathburn and Mary Margaret Prophater Ray.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, William C. Stanton and sisters, Mary Elizabeth Ray Davis and Anne Ray Kersey.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens, was a graduate of McMinn County High School and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She was a librarian at Vandenburg Air Force Base in Lompoc, Ca.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William C. Stanton, Jr. and Janalee Mourn, of Houston, Tx.; granddaughter, Carroll Ann Stanton; sisters, Sandra Sherlin of Athens, Donna Moore, of Tallahassee, Fl., and Laura Cooper and husband, Robert, of Atlanta; brothers, Rathburn (Bubba) Ray, Jr. and wife, Peggy and George Ray, of Smynra, Tn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17 at Cedar Grove Cemetery, with Dr. Joe Delph officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Smith Funeral Home, prior to the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Josh Sherlin, Will Sherlin, Drake Sherlin, Randy Cook and Sandy Ray.
