Sunday, May 22, 2022 - by Steve Hixson

Cameron Weaver of Crossville and Jason Welshan of Maryville doubled up over the weekend at four different tracks, taking wins in Kentucky, Sweetwater, Tn., Chattanooga/Ringgold and Seymour, Tn.

Friday night Weaver (#116) picked up $3,000 winning at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater before heading to Boyd's Speedway on Saturday, while Welshan scored big at Mountain Motorsports Park Friday in Kentucky, before heading to 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tn. Saturday. Both Weaver's wins came under the Topless Outlaw Late Model series banner, with Welshan piloting his Hux Motorsports #01 "Bandit" 604/Crate Late Model car to his two victories.

In Dayton/Spring City, just north of Chattanooga on Saturday, Kyle Courtney of Knoxville put an end to Barry Goodman's winning streak in Late Model action. The big race was a $1,000 feature for the FWD division that drew 47 entries. Nathan Adams of Crossville won from the pole position holding off 8th starting Jake Presley of Sweetwater and Jason Katron of Kingsport.

Down in Northeast Alabama at the Fort Payne Motor Speedway, just south of Chattanooga, Chase Oliver picked up another Super Late Model victory. Jesse Hughes (#22) won his first Crate Late Model feature.

Johnson City's Jensen Ford (#83) won a battle against Brandon Overton (#76), arguably the hottest racer in America, Friday in South Carolina worth $5,000.

The North Georgia Speedway in Dalton/Chatsworth was rained out halfway through its season opener program.

Next weekend being Memorial Day, a plethora of races are slated. Sunday the United Championship Racing Alliance - UCRA is at Tazewell Speedway, north of Knoxville near the Kentucky border, for a $3,001 50-lapper dedicated to Melvin Corum.

22 Questions And Concerns About A New $79.5 Million Lookouts Stadium

The proposal for the Lookouts stadium brings forth several questions that I have not gotten good answers yet from anyone. 1. If the 10 acres Gary Chazen is donating is worth $10,000,000, why doesn’t he and his partners just sell the 140 acres and go to the bank with over $100,000,000? 2. There has been over a billion dollars of new construction in downtown Chattanooga ... (click for more)

New Stadium Does Not Pass The Smell Test - And Response

I can't find any logical reasons that the new Lookout stadium is being placed where it is other than to think it's a combination of favoritism and eliminating an eyesore. All statistics point to an illogical decision coupled with questionable tax breaks/support. Lookouts average attendance in 2018 (all that I could quickly find) was 3,206 per game and ranked 74th among ... (click for more)
