Joyce Ann Goforth Johnson, 82, a lifelong resident of Athens, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 28, 2022 in a Knoxville hospital. She was born on Nov. 14, 1939, a daughter of the late Jake & Ella Goforth. Joyce was retired from the Textron Industries. She enjoyed spending time with her family above all else.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings, Fred Goforth, Annie Bell Sneed, Harvey Goforth, J. C. Goforth, Edna Lee Swafford, Irene Richardson, JoAnn Bailey, Lois Deane Emmett, Patricia Ann Storer, Mary Opal Key, James Franklin Goforth and Terry Dale Goforth.
Joyce leaves behind to cherish her memory, three daughters, Kimberlie Edmonson, Christine Davis and Cheryl Riedel; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carolyn Roy Goforth; numerous other extended family members; and a host of special friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 2 from 2-4 p.m. in the Athens chapel of Companion Funeral Home. A service celebrating her life will follow the visitation time on Saturday at 4 p.m., with the Pastor Noah Russell officiating.
The interment will follow in the Short Creek Cemetery, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
