Betty Davis Hicks, 88, of Cleveland, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022 at her home.

She was a member of South Cleveland United Methodist Church. Betty was born and passed away on the family property. She was a graduate of Bradley Central High School, class of 1951 where she was captain of the girl’s basketball team and voted most athletic. She was voted into the Old Timers Association Hall of Fame, along with her sister, Melba Davis Schrader in 2017. Betty owned and operated Ocoee Superette with her brother, Austin Davis for many years. Upon the death of her brother, Paul Davis she operated Davis Braided Rug Company, where she had made rugs since high school.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kenneth Hicks; parents, John and Grady Davis; siblings: Jewell Carroll, Paul Davis, Austin Davis, Nellie Davis, Arvell Davis, J.T. Davis, Alvin Davis and Melba Schrader.   

Survivors include her children: Terry Hyde, Tim Hyde, Kathy Simonds (Philip) and Kenny Hicks (Shannon); grandchildren, Trey Hicks (Carrie) and Brandon Hicks; great grandchildren: Garrett Beach, Tenley Hicks, Everett Hicks and Ellie Hicks; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 3, in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with the Reverend Burt Beria officiating.

Interment will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery with Brent Belcher, Luke Belcher, Todd Barham, Tyler Curry, Mike Dunn and Brett Dunn serving as pallbearers.

Her family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home prior to the service.
