Dayton Students Show Improvement On TCAP

  • Thursday, July 14, 2022
The Tennessee Department of Education has released the TCAP scores and Dayton City School came out above average in a lot of categories, according to Superintendent Trish Newsome.

In addressing the Dayton City Council, which also serves as the school board, she presented the data results.

“We have a lot to be proud of at Dayton City School.
As we examine our school data and compare it to last year's, we see an upward trend. After a year and a half of COVID, we are headed in the right direction - up. I am extremely proud of the hard work of our teachers and students. They have put in the work and will continue to do so. There are also areas of need. These areas will be targeted throughout the next school year," said Supt. Newsome.

She gave a lot of credit not only to the students but the teachers as well.

“Dayton City School will continue to support students and teachers through the TDOE Literacy Networks, TN All Corp Tutoring, as well as engaging with the TDOE Math Implementation Network for the upcoming school year.  The support through these networks will continue to help us move upward. As I said, I am very proud of the teachers and the students for their hard work. We are moving in the right direction," she continued.

Dayton City School students scored at or above statewide proficiency levels in more than 48 percent of tested areas during the 2021-22 school year according to district-level TCAP results released by the Tennessee Department of Education.

“The TNReady is one piece of a very large puzzle. We have benchmark tests that are given throughout the year along with other assessments.   This data will guide us in making decisions for the next school year,” said Supt. Newsome.
This is her second year as superintendent of the system after serving as principal for five years. Prior to the Covid period, Dayton City School has always been ranked high amongst the states K-8 schools.
