McCallie Swim Team Ranked Nationally By Intercollegiate Coaches Association

Stan Corcoran Is State Male Coach Of The Yesr

The McCallie School's swimming and diving program was ranked the 19th best boys program in the nation for 2021-22 as determined by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association. It marks the first time the Blue Tornado have been ranked inside the top 25.


Additionally, Head Coach Stan Corcoran’s most recent squad was ranked No.

9 nationally among boys large independent schools with enrollments greater than 900.


St. Xavier of Kentucky was ranked No. 1 in both polls. Rounding out the top five in the boys large independent school category – Loyola of Los Angeles, Santa Margarita Catholic in California, St. Xavier of Cincinnati, and the Breck-Blake School in Minnesota.


The Blue Tornado were runners up at the 2022 Tennessee state meet and have placed first or second each of the last four years. Sam Powe, a senior in 2021-22, was selected as the Male Swimmer of the Year and was part of all four of McCallie’s state championship swims in February.


Powe won the 100 backstroke and 200 freestyle and was a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay teams. Then-freshman Marvin Johnson placed second in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle, and his 50 free time was the nation’s sixth-fastest for 16 year olds.


Corcoran was voted the state’s Male Coach of the Year.
