Hash Leads UTC Soccer To Win Over MTSU

  • Wednesday, August 10, 2022

Chattanooga’s Shelby Hash battled through the Middle Tennessee defense Tuesday night twice to give the Mocs a 2-1 win over the Blue Raiders in preseason women’s soccer action.

The two teams battled to a draw in the first of three 30-minute periods at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium. In the 43rd minute of the match, Hash fought off the defense, pushing the ball through for the first goal.

It didn’t take Middle Tennessee long, however, to match the Mocs.

Delaney Thomas fired a shot into the right side just 15 seconds later to tie it up 1-1.

Chattanooga switched keepers at the midway point, placing freshman Caroline Ekern between the pipes for the remainder. She made a save on just one shot and earned the win on Hash’s second goal.

Grace Klippenstein took the corner and instead of kicking to the goal, passed it to Mackenzie Smith to her right. Smith advanced toward the goal and Klippenstein picked it up and her shot hit the keeper’s feet and Hash charged in to tap in over the line as she fell into the goal with just over two minutes to play.

UTC outshot the Raiders 9-6 with a 5-2 shots on goal advantage. MTSU had three saves to the Mocs one. Hash and Zoey Mize each had two shots for Chattanooga. Alex Goffi came off the bench for MTSU to lead her team with two shots.

Chattanooga will travel to Jacksonville State Friday for its second and final exhibition of the preseason. The match is set to kick off at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
