Who would have thought that a vegetable farmer for over 40 years would retire to become a flower farmer? Terry and Diane Hughes have farmed all kinds of vegetables on the mountain and you have even seen them working at the Chattanooga Market for 12 years, but it was time for the Hughes to slow down. They now enjoy growing flowers and having a fall agritourism event mid-September to the end of October for locals to come enjoy their farm that they so love.

Flat Top Mountain Farm is a family run farm, the Hughes’ daughters and their husbands along with the children work beside each other. Hughes farming has carried on to the next generation. Mr. Hughes is a proud 8th generation Tennessean, making his grandchildren 10th generation.

“It’s our hope our children and their children will continue with the legacy that was before us,” said Mr. Hughes.

There are rows and rows of zinnias, sunflowers and a few cosmos that will last till October. Starting Sept. 16, the farm will have hay rides, corn maze, pumpkin patch, flowers and beautiful mountain views till Oct. 30.

This year the corn maze is in the shape of Tennessee and is called “Tennessee Road Trip”.
