Bettye Gouger, 93, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2022.

 

She was born outside Gadsden, Al., to the late James A. and Pauline Gray. She and her husband Carl founded Carsbe Company Inc., a company that manufactured horse riding equipment.

 

She went back to school after her retirement to get a BS in Economics. She graduated in 2007 at 79 years of age with membership in the Zeta Chapter of Tennessee of the Omicron Delta Epsilon society for high scholastic achievement in Economics and The Golden Key International Honor Society.

 

After her husband died in 2013, she traveled extensively with her daughter and son-in-law through the United States and overseas (France, Sweden, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Estonia, Germany, Finland, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, The Netherlands, and Belgium).

 

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Carl Gouger, brothers Jimmy Gray, Johnny Gray, and Charles Gray, sisters Edith Eaves and Edna Ratchford, and her aforementioned parents.

 

Left behind to cherish Bettye’s memory are her daughter, Susan Rouse (Rusty), son, Steve Gouger (Janet), granddaughter, Brittany Hamby (Mark), grandson Matthew Gouger, great-grandchildren, Reese Gouger, Courtlin Hamby, Jude Gouger, Brooks Hamby, Davis Hamby, and Noah Gouger, all of Chattanooga, brothers, George Gray (Darlene), Phoenix, AZ., Ted Gray (Sandy), Tamarac, FL., sisters-in-law, Nancy Gray, Memphis, Tn., and Sandra Gray, Chattanooga, numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends

 

A Celebration of Bettye’s Life will be held in the First Baptist Church of Chattanooga on Monday, Sept. 26, at 12 p.m. with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Bettye will be laid to rest with her husband, Carl in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

 

The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation for the caretakers of Caring Senior Service, especially Camille Smith and Stephanie Smith, for all they did to help care for Bettye during the last few months.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution in Bettye’s memory can be made to either of the following, First Baptist Church of Chattanooga, 401 Gateway Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37402; Orange Grove Center, 615 Derby St, Chattanooga, Tn. 37404, or TC Thompsons Childrens Hospital, 910 Blackford St, Chattanooga, Tn. 37403.

 

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
