Johnnie “John” Blois Tallent, 97, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 24, 2022.

 

John was born and raised in Henagar, AL and graduated from Pisgah High School. He was a proud US Army Air Force veteran having served during WWII. John was an active member of Tiftonia Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for 40 years. He studied to be an electrician before going to work for Combustion. John retired after over 30 years as a machinist with Combustion Engineering. He was a member of the Hill City Masonic Lodge and enjoyed gardening and woodworking in his free time. John loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them. He was a gifted storyteller, honest, hardworking and dedicated.

 

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred J. Tallent; parents, Herman and Nellie Tallent; sisters, Bonnie and Donnie Tallent; and brother, Orillion Tallent.

 

Survivors include his daughters, Marsha (Henry) Edwards and Brenda (Dale) Domer; grandchildren: Chris (Christina) Edwards, Daniel Edwards, Lauren (Darren) Estill, and Heath Domer; great grandchildren: William and James Edwards, Gunner and Lilly Kate Estill; sister, Virginia Lester; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. in the Tiftonia Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Brandon officiating. Mr. Tallent will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Lakewood Memory Gardens West.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Sept. 26, from 6-8 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
