Carolyn June Coleman, 79 of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 23, 2023.

Carolyn had lived most of her life in the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas and attended Central High School. She was a longtime member of Canaan Baptist Church in Chattanooga where her husband, James Coleman, pastored for many years. Carolyn worked at Jorges Carpet Mills in Ft. Oglethorpe, Chattanooga Bakery, and finished her working career at Goody’s Family Clothing in East Gate Mall. Her passions in life were God, her church, her family, and shopping. Carolyn spent many hours volunteering with her church in the Hospital ministries, playing the piano, singing, and was an assistant to the Sunday school teacher for many years. When she wasn’t at church, Carolyn enjoyed traveling, spending time at the beach, Gatlinburg, and Disney World.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James W. Coleman; parents, Claude and Lillie Mae Smith; siblings, Claude Martin Smith, Jr. and Mildred Boring; two sons-in-law, James W. Bisinger and Homer Michael Shipp.

Survivors include her children: Angela Shipp, Cynthia D. Bisinger, and Bobby S. (Kristy) Coleman; six grandchildren: Ashley (Joe) Simmons, Jamie Campbell, Angelese (Ethan) Mackey, Daniel Clark, Blayne (Jessica) Coleman, and Jake Coleman; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Pastor Joe Gill officiating. Interment will follow in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
