Sept. 24 marked the third annual Global Ismaili CIVIC Day with a collective clean-up of 14 waterways and green spaces in the southeast to remove trash and invasive plant species from waterways and improve water quality and the health of the local ecosystem.
"These clean-ups were guided by a commitment to environmental stewardship grounded in Islam’s core values of service, peace, compassion and care for our environment," organizers said. "This year, Ismaili CIVIC Day volunteers in Chattanooga partnered with Tennessee Valley Authority, and they joined tens of thousands of volunteers across the globe.
They removed 25 bags full of trash from Booker T. Washington State Farm.
"Volunteers participating in this year’s cleanup were united by their shared ethic of environmental stewardship. The cleanup will not only contribute to the beautification of their community, but allow for friendship and greater understanding amongst individuals of different faith traditions."
