Ruth A. Shattuck, 85, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

Ruth was a lifelong resident of the Hixson area. She was a 1956 graduate of City High School where she was the Co-Salutatorian. Ruth attended the University of Tennessee, and continued her education as a medical technologist with the University of Chattanooga and their affiliation with Erlanger. After schooling she became a Registered Medical Technologist with Erlanger, where she became a full time employee until she had her first child and then she became a full time homemaker. She was actively involved with her children’s activities. Ruth always looked forward to birthdays, holidays and family gatherings. Ruth was a member with St. Peter’s Episcopal Church for 20 years and then, in 1990, became a member of Hixson United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie C. and Margaret Axmacher; daughter, Lisa Gail Shattuck; and brothers, Randy and Edward Axmacher.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Judge Clarence Shattuck; sons, Clarence (Andrea) Shattuck, III, Dr. Paul (Jennifer) Shattuck and Dr. Mark Shattuck; five grandchildren, Lydia (Caleb) Shiver, Luke (Laken) Shattuck, James Shattuck, Matthew Shattuck and Addisyn Burns - Shattuck; brother, David Axmacher; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1, and 12-1 p.m. on Saturday, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Ruth’s life will follow at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the North Chapel with her Pastor Chuck Starks officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to the McConnell Scholarship Fund at Hixson United Methodist Church, 5301 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343, or your favorite charity.

The family would like to sincerely thank the staff and nurses at Storypoint Assisted Living for your care and compassion given to Ruth during her two years there and for the care and love given by Hospice of Chattanooga for your recent help.
