Mason Dalton provided indoor fireworks on Monday afternoon as his score in the 90' propelled #4-seed Dalton State to a 1-0 win over William Penn (Iowa) in Round of 16 action at the NAIA Men's Soccer Championship at Stryker Soccer Complex in Wichita, Kan.
Dalton was the last effort for the Roadrunners as he raced down the pitch with two defenders trailing him, while splitting a double team as he moved to his left, shook another defender and unleashed a shot that ricocheted off a Penn player and into the back of the net with just 20 ticks left on the clock.
#4-seed Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (14-2-3 overall) with the win, while #17 William Penn (Iowa) ends the season at (12-5-4 overall) with the loss. Mason Dalton provided the only goal of the match. For the game, DS held an 11-7 edge in shots, with four of them coming in the last 10 minutes of play. Michael Barrueta collected a 3-save clean sheet in net.
The #4 Roadrunners advance to the Round of 8 that begins on Thursday, November 30 at Stryker Sports Complex. The Roadrunners will face #5 St. Thomas (Fla.) with kickoff scheduled 1:00 p.m. (CT).
