CLEVELAND, Tenn --Walker Valley opened the home wrestling schedule in a big way against Hixson with a pair of wins for the Mustangs and Lady Mustangs.
The boys rolled to a 61-12 win over the Wildcats while the girls won by a score of 42-13.
The Mustangs return to the mat hosting McMinn Central and Polk County inside “The Stable” Thursday.
“I liked a lot of the effort. We kind of have a little makeshift lineup because of some of the guys playing football, but it's the same thing every year so we have that to deal with. We have some youth out there which I liked their fight,” said Mustangs head coach Al Morris.
Walker Valley picked up easy wins in five of the first eight bouts courtesy of Hixson forfeits. Elijah Offriga picked up the first of four pins for the Mustangs at 132 pounds. Matt Campos (144), Asher Easley (157) and Michael Ivanov (175) all won by pin. Jeremiah Townsend (285) wrestled to a technical fall and Chris Dempsey (165) earned a decision win for the Mustangs.
Hixson's Jeffery Deason (190) and Adam Billingsley (215) earned six points apiece for the Wildcats.
The Lady Mustangs saw Lily Shipley (107), Hannah Creller (120) and Aubrey Schmitt (126) wrestle to pins.
Makinna Schwartz earned the lone pin for the Lady Wildcats at 235.
“There's a lot of little things we can work on and we will,” said Morris.
