Three new FCS All-America squads were announced over the past week including one of the top national picks of note, the Stats Perform All-America Team presented by FedEx Ground. Jay Person collected two first teams and a second team in the trio, while Kam Brown added a third team to his hardware.
Person was first in both the Stats Perform and Associated Press listings, while coming in on the second team by Phil Steele. Brown was third team per Stats Perform which is added to his first team pick in the initial squad of the year coming from FCS Football Central.
This marks back-to-back years for Person as a first team All-America selection.
It’s also the second year Brown garnered attention from multiple outlets.
More news to come this week with Wednesday Signing Day announcements, CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District (Thursday) and AFCA All-America (Friday) coming out as well.
Person joins Brown as the first back-to-back 1st team All-American since…DT Devonnsha Maxwell. Just the second time with a pair of teammates earning first team honors together in successive years. The other? 2015-16 (DE Keionta Davis/OL Corey Levin).
Person has six first team picks in his four years at Chattanooga. That’s third in school history behind Davis Tull ’14 (9) and Isaiah Mack ’18 (7). All seven of Mack’s honors came in that 2018 campaign.
41 All-America picks (23 first team) by nine different student-athletes (5 first team) in Coach Rusty Wright’s five seasons at the helm (starting 2019).
"Each of those guys earned those honors throughout the week," Coach Rusty Wright shared. "These are guys who put in the work, day-in, day-out to be good players. I'm glad to see them recognized for their efforts for our football team."
