Helping Hands Ending Hunger Inc. has received a donation of $3,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish neighbors experiencing hunger. The Feeding the Hungry grant supports HHEH’s efforts to address childhood food insecurity in northwest Georgia by purchasing food for families in need participating school chapters. In addition, the grant supports HHEH’s outreach providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.
HHEH has a simple mission to empower students to rescue uneaten food from school meals and join hands with their communities to nurture food insecure families. HHEH believes that students can be ambassadors for change in their communities, learning about sustainability, resourcefulness and the power of collective efforts, and inspiring others to act. Thanks to Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation’s generosity, HHEH has purchased large holiday hams for 170 families in need participating in HHEH’s programming at City Park Elementary, Park Creek Elementary and Blue Ridge School. Food rescued from school meals, pantry items and fresh produce, along with fun recipes, will also go home with these families, making the holidays especially joyful this season.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $18.1 million in grants.
