Charles Jackson

Charles Douglas Jackson, age 77 of Athens, entered into his heavenly home to be with Jesus on December 1, 2023.

Charles was a wonderful loving husband, dad, papaw and pap. Most of all, he was a child of God who loved to share what Jesus had done for him. He always put God first, family and friends after that. He was a faithful member of Valley Road Baptist Church where he proudly served as a deacon and song leader. Church was his life. He retired after almost 30 years of service at Collins and Aikman.

He was proceeded in death by his father Ira "Biggin" Jackson, mother Margie Elkins Jackson, sister Sara Lee Robertson, brother-in-law Farrell McHone, brother-in-law Tim Wood brother-in-law Clarence Robertson, sister Sylvia Jean Jackson Ingram, brother Glen Jackson brother-in-law Dick Collins father-in-law Ross Carden, mother-in-law Geneva Roberts Carden, sister-in-law Eva Sue Carden, brother-in-law Marvin Burdette, brother-in-law Lewis Layman, brother-in-law Franklin Carden sister-in-law Glenna "Lucy" Carden, sister-in-law Gladys DeLores Spence and nephew Travis Brandon Moore.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years Sandra Carden Jackson, son Glenn Douglas Jackson, loving daughter-in-law Stephanie Simpson Jackson, granddaughter Joanna Korynne Jackson, and great-grandson Lucas Dean Johnson. Brother Reverand Jimmy and Linda Jackson, brother-in-law Clyde Ingram, sister Ellen Collins, sister Faye Wood, sister Phylis and Kenneth Hale, brother Steve and Judy Jackson, brother Tony and Linda Jackson, sister-in-law Margaret Burdette, sister-in-law Wilma and Ken Hall, sister-in-law Shirley Bohannon Carden, sister-in-law Katherine Layman, sister-in-law Sara and Jim Blair, sister-in-law Barbara and Joe Drumright, and sister-in-law Wanda and Wayne Moore. Countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors all whom he loved dearly.

He mentored and inspired countless people over multiple generations at Valley Road Baptist Church. He made friends everywhere he went and was a fixture of the community. He was a talented man who could build and fix almost anything. His hobby was work. He loved to mow and help anyone that needed him. He truly had a servant's heart. He fought to the very end with the grace, bravery, grit, love and faith he was known for. He is a proper legend.

We would like to thank UT Hospital, Amedisys, Tennova of Athens and his many wonderful caregivers.

A "Gone Home" service will be held at Valley Road Baptist Church on Sunday, Dec. 3. Visitation 4 to 6 p.m., service at 6 p.m. with Reverand David Coffman and Reverand Gus Fine officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Valley Road Baptist Church, 766 County Road 187, Athens, TN 37303.
