David Charles Hafley
David Charles Hafley was born on October 30, 1929 and passed away on December 4, 2023.
His parents, Dana and Fred Hafley lived in Cleveland, Tn. He graduated from Central High School and enlisted in the Air Force in July, 1947. He served honorably until July, 1950, when he was discharged with the rank of Staff Sargeant. He enlisted in the Air Force Reserve immediately after his discharge. His reserve years were very busy with pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Tennessee on a work-study program and meeting and marrying his lifelong love, Annie Ruth Reeves before his discharge in 1953. He worked at Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga on alternate college quarters and graduated with his degree in 1956. He was able to do all this and maintain a high enough GPA to be elected to the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Fraternity and the Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Fraternity.
Most of his early career was spent at U.S. Pipe and Foundry until they closed. He finished his career at TVA as a member of the Reactor and Auxiliary Section.
After his retirement, he was very active in the Lions Club of Red Bank and the Red Bank Planning Commission. He helped his wife make their yard the envy of the neighborhood. His adult children were very blessed to have his knowledge, expertise and physical help on business and housing renovations. He will be missed terribly by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
