  • Monday, February 27, 2023
Shirley “Donna” (Rinehart) Porter McIntyre, of Athens, born Oct. 18, 1949, age 73, went to be with Jesus in heaven peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, with her husband, John McIntyre, by her side. She lived a full life and was beloved by many.

Donna is preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Porter; her parents, William and Frances Rinehart, of Aliquippa, Pa.; her grandparents, Roy and Mary Rinehart, of Riceville; her grandparents, Austin and Pearl Rue, of Athens; and other extended family of Athens.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, John McIntyre, of 30 happily married years, and his extended family in WV. Donna met John, the love of her life, in Aliquippa, Pa. in 1991 at the Pittsburgh airport, where they worked together in maintenance. They married Oct. 28, 1992. Within months, they moved to Athens to be near extended family, nature and the mountains. She loved to go to Bald River Falls to hike and look out. She always made family a priority and enjoyed regularly connecting to loved ones far and near, so they knew they were deeply loved. Jesus was her Savior. Her favorite verse was Ephesians 6:10 “Be strong in the Lord for His power is mighty.” Her favorite hymns were How Great Thou Art, Amazing Grace, In the Garden and What a Friend We Have in Jesus. She knew Jesus’ power of forgiveness and peace. Nothing is impossible with God.

She is also survived by her son, Michael Porter (Linda), of Athens, whom she loved and treasured beyond words. Mike is her only son and Linda quickly became her daughter; also her brother, Darriel Rinehart (Dawn), married 50 years, of Columbus Oh.; and her sister, Kathy Rinehart Short (Jack), married 39 years, of Aliquippa Pa.; her sister-in-law, Sandy Handerman (Harry), married 29 years, of New Cumberland, WV; step-grandchildren, James Davis, Tabbatha, Kevin, Brittany and Kayla Avery, along with extended families of Aliquippa, Pa.; niece and nephews, Duane Rinehart (Susana), of San Diego, Ca., along with their children, Duane Ignacio “Nash,” Alexandra, Chloé and André, Valerie Rinehart Pigg (Darin), of Columbus, Oh., along with her children, Samuel and Bethany, John Michael “Jack” Short (Lori), of Aliquippa, Pa., along with their daughters, Alaina and Alysssa, and Richard “Rick” Short (Bill), of Aliquippa, Pa.; as well as other extended family of Athens, all of whom she loved and cared for deeply.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at Star Regional Medical Center for their care and hospitality during her last days.

Per her request, no funeral services will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at Miracle Deliverance Tabernacle at 245 Co. Road 677 in Riceville on Saturday, March 4 at 1 p.m.
