The Lee University softball team dropped the third and final game of the series against Saint Leo on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Flames had plenty of opportunities in the loss to score but left 11 base runners on base.
The Lady Flames loaded the bases in the top of the first inning. Ana Macha, Alexa Scalzo, and Javaria Smith were all walked to start the game. Saint Leo made a pitching change and then Sidney Lee reached safely on an error but Macha was thrown out at home. Laney Harris and Kylie Bohl were then retired to end the threat.
Rylie Goodridge was walked in the second inning but was left at first base.
SLU scored their first run in the bottom of the second taking advantage of two walks and a single to take a 1-0 lead.
Lee had a single and Laney Harris was hit by a pitch, but the Lady Flames could not take advantage in the third inning. In the top of the fourth, Alesandro Razo hit a single. That was followed by a single from Macha. Scalzo then reached on an error to load the bases but all three were left stranded.
Saint Leo added two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Two singles, a wild pitch, an error, and a sacrifice fly helped allow the Lions to extend the lead to 3-0. Lee got on the board in the top of the sixth. Razo reached base on an error and then Macha reached on an error which allowed Razo to score.
The Lions then came back and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Saint Leo had a single to start off the inning. That was followed by a walk and another single. A hit by a pitch scored the first run. The second run of the inning came on a sacrifice fly. The final two runs were brought in on a single. Lee added one more run in the seventh when Smith was walked and then got to second on a passed ball. Lee singled to advance Smith to third. Harris then hit a sacrifice fly to score Smith for the second and final run of the game.
Saint Leo out hit Lee eight to four in the win. Lee stranded 11 base runners in the loss. Sidney Lee was 2-for-4 from the plate.
Lee will return to action next weekend as they will head to Livingston, Ala. and take on West Alabama. The series will start with a single game on Friday, March 17 at 6 PM.
