The Chattanooga Mocs beach volleyball team earned its fourth-straight victory after securing a perfect weekend at the "OVC Weekend at Chattanooga" behind wins over Eastern Illinois and Tennessee Tech on Saturday afternoon at the UTC Sports Complex Beach Courts.
Following the doubleheader sweep, Chattanooga improves to 8-5 overall and 4-1 inside OVC action. EIU dropped to 0-5 overall (0-4 OVC) while TTU fell to 3-5 overall and 1-3 inside league play.
"I'm extremely proud of the team for capping off a competitive weekend with two more wins," said head coach Darin Van Horn.
"This group continues to compete the right way and their hard work is starting to pay off.
We hope to keep on this positive track heading into next weekend's home showcase."
In the first match against Eastern Illinois, Chattanooga jumped out to a 2-0 lead following wins at No. 4 and No. 5 to kick start the day. The pair of Kaye Gresham and Madelina Myers-Osband completed a 16-21, 21-14, 15-2 comeback at No. 4 following Grace Frigaard and Halle Olson's 21-19, 21-18 win in the No. 5 hole.
Neva Clark and Joy Courtright continued their impressive play at the No. 1 pairing and posted a 21-12, 21-17 win to clinch the team victory and put the squad up 3-0. Julia Davis and Maddi Morris earned a 20-22, 21-12, 15-2 three-set win at No. 3 to cap off the team's four-point winning effort.
Chattanooga took a 1-0 lead early in the second match against Tennessee Tech after the No. 5 pairing of Gresham and Myers-Osband earned a 22-20, 21-13 victory. The Golden Eagles tied things at 1-1 with a victory in the No. 4 hole ahead of the final three matches.
The Mocs grabbed the lead once again with the Clark and Courtright combo posting a 21-11, 21-9 rout in the top pairing to put the team ahead 2-1 down the stretch. UTC's match clinching moment came on a 21-18, 21-14 decision in favor of the freshmen duo of Faychak and Lecik at No. 2.
Chattanooga returns to action next weekend when it hosts the Scenic City Showdown on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1 at the UTC Sports Complex Beach Courts. UTC will face UT Martin (OVC), Eastern Kentucky, Liberty and Carson-Newman.
