Janice Bailey Booker, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023. She was 77.
Janice lived her life to the fullest. She loved all of those around her and took them in like family – from the kids in the neighborhood to her co-workers and friends. She was always there for them with a good laugh and a helping hand.
Janice, originally from West Point (Cullman County), AL, had various jobs over the years from cashier to childcare to caregiver for troubled youth. But her longest, favorite job was working as a laborer with TVA during outages. She worked as a laborer for over 25 years. Janice took her job very seriously making sure “her people” were taken care of while maintaining all safety processes and procedures. She simply loved her job.
Janice was best known for her passion for crafting, quilting, canning and cooking. She spent many years collecting materials to make various craft projects and she had an eye for unusual items. Janice passed her love for crafting onto her daughters and her love of canning and cooking to all of her children. Her Thanksgiving dressing & Christmas Russian Tea are legendary. Each of her children and niece make their own version of dressing and the “recipes” are being passed on to the next generation.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents Arnold Pierce Bailey and Agnes Dora Garner Bailey.
Janice’s greatest achievement in life has been mother to her four children and she raised them with many good southern qualities. The one that shines through brightest is her strength in each one of them. She taught them how to be strong in faith, strong in fighting for their dreams and strong enough to fight for the people they love.
Janice’s children are Larunda (Bart) Jordan, Anniston, AL, Lee (Judy Blackwell) Booker, Spring City, TN, Eric (Kelly Jo) Booker, Soddy Daisy, TN and Janessa (Brian) Snell, Oak Ridge, TN; ten grandchildren: Houston & Madison Jordan, Layla & Mason Booker, Rachel & Rebecca Blackwell, Andrew & Dylan Booker, Spencer & Bryley Snell. Two brothers, Arnold (Johnnie) Bailey, Jasper, TN and Alton (Diana), Bailey, West Point, AL with several nieces and nephews Leon (Sandra) Bailey, Renee (Tony) Vandiver, Marty Bailey and Melissa (Colby) Junkin.
The family will receive friends on April 30, from 1–3 p.m. at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home in Soddy Daisy. The service will be held at 3 p.m. with Pastor Darrell Davenport officiating.
