U.S. Army Veteran Retired From The Chattanooga Firefighter After 25 Years

Stephen Richard Orth was born on September 2, 1949, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones after a well fought battle with gastric and bone cancer.

After serving in the United States Army, he became a fire fighter with the Chattanooga Fire Department and served 25 years until his retirement. He liked spending time bass fishing was an avid reader and loved trips to the beach.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nelda Fitch Orth, the Walker Family, Tim, Melissa, Lawton, Kate and Maggie; his two sisters, Jeanette Johansen of Durango Colorado, Diane Orth(Alfred) of Beltsville Maryland, two nephews and four great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Doris Orth of Norman, Ok.

The family would like to thank the Oncology Department at Memorial Hospital, Blood Assurance and the Hospice Care Center Staff for their efforts and support.

A Celebration of Life service for Steve will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, in the funeral home chapel. A time of fellowship will follow the service.
