UT Extension will be hosting six food preservation classes (four canning and two freezing) in July and August. Each class is $20 per person, which allows participants to take either a canning or freezing class. Participants may also choose to take both classes for $40.
Classes are designed for beginners, or those needing a refresher, to take home research-based resources and try tasty samples.
Home Canning classes enable student to learn equipment needed, where to find reliable recipes, when and how to use water bath and pressure canners, latest tested technology, time saving techniques and more.
Home Canning Class schedule:
- Tuesday, July 11 from 10 a.m.-noon;
- Saturday, July 15 from 1-3 p.m.;
- Thursday, July 20 from 6-8 p.m.; and
- Tuesday, Aug.
8 from 1-3 p.m.
Freezing Foods classes enable students to learn to freeze foods for best quality and to save money, how to select freezer
and equipment, recommended storage methods, prevent freezer burn and more.
Freezing Foods Class schedule:
- Thursday, July 13 from 1-3 p.m.; and
- Thursday, Aug. 10 from 6-8 p.m.
