Maggie Haimelin of Chattanooga on Saturday was selected as the first runner-up in the Distinguished Young Women National Finals competition and was presented with a cash scholarship of $20,000. Ms. Haimelin earned preliminary competition awards in the fitness and talent categories for $2,000 in additional cash scholarships.
Following a selection process that began in her home state of Tennessee, Ms. Haimelin began preparing for the 66th annual scholarship competition. The competition was held at the Mobile Civic Center in Mobile, Al. Thursday was the first night of preliminary competition and Friday was the second night of preliminary competition.
Ms. Haimelin is a graduate of Notre Dame High School. In the fall, she will attend the University of
Alabama with plans to become a physician assistant. She is the daughter of Barbara and Daniel
Haimelin.
Carrington Hodge of Helena, Al., was selected as the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2023 and presented with a $40,000 cash scholarship. Madison Parker of Indiana was selected as second runner-up and Megan Tandar of Utah was selected as third runner-up. $155,000 in total cash scholarships was awarded during the three-day competition.
