In its final game before starting CCS play, the Covenant College men's soccer team hit the road for an away match at Sewanee. The Scots had 14 shots, but couldn't put the ball in the back of the net as they fell 2-0.
Kade Theunissen had Covenant's first shot on goal in the 11th minute. In the 21st minute, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Will Pucek that was assisted by Stokes McConnell.
In the 41st and 44th minute, Luke Laughlin and Zach Moir each had shots saved by the Sewanee keeper.
At the intermission, Sewanee had five shots while Covenant had four.
The Tigers doubled their lead early in the second half on a goal from McConnell that was assisted by Tyler Cozzie. In the next 10 minutes after going two goals down, the Scots battled to try and get back in the game with chances from Parker Rody, Knox Gibson, and Fox Landgren.
Eli Honeycutt made a save in the 69th minute to keep Covenant to within two.
Laughlin and Moir each had shots in the final 10 minutes, but neither could find the back of the net.
Covenant drops to 10-5-3 all-time against Sewanee. Covenant outshot Sewanee 14-12 with nine shots on target.
The Scots had five corner kicks while the Tigers had three.
Covenant will travel to Huntingdon on Saturday for its CCS opener. First kick is scheduled for 2:00 PM EST.
