David “Dave” Russell Garrett
David “Dave” Russell Garrett, 87, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
A native of Greenville, S.C., he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a graduate of the University of Chattanooga, a member of Grace Works Church and former owner and operator of Garrett’s Tire and Auto. Dave was married to his lifelong sweetheart for 66 years. He loved life, his family and the Lord. He was a passionate golfer, lover of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Miles Dewey and Maude Viola Cox Garrett; two brothers, Miles Garrett and Robert “Don” Garrett; six sisters, Evelyn Williams, Alyce Lawrence, Mary Jo Gasior, Peggy Ledford, Betty Scoggins, and Norma Hitt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Hampton Garrett, two sons, Miles David “Chip” (Janne) of Chattanooga, TN., and Christopher Blake (Libby) Garrett of Smithfield, VA.; daughter, Melissa (Forrest) McNair of McDonald, TN.; sister, Linda Cox of Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Shelby (Albert) Hinman, Wilson (Brittany) McNair, Hope Garrett, Garrett McNair, Blake Garrett and Allison McNair; great grandson, Maddox Miles McNair; fourteen nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, at the funeral home.
