Korean War Veteran Held Long Career With DuPont

Willard Haskel Johnson, resident of Hixson, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, six days after his 92nd birthday.

Willard Johnson (from Evansville TN and graduated from Spring City High School) served his Country well in the United States Army from 1951 until 1955 as a combat veteran in the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge as a Staff Sargent. Willard worked one year at Dupont Plant off Access Road then was drafted, where he returned to Dupont immediately after his military deployment. Willard worked 48+ years at Dupont and took a requested late retirement package to go back in the rear gate as a major contractor supervisor for many years after that three day retirement.

Spiritually, Willard H. Johnson also served as an Honorable Certified Gideon Speaker for churches inside the North Hamilton County Camp for over 30+ years, where 100% of donations collected were used to buy bibles to be handed out locally and issued in 200 Countries Worldwide! Willard loved the Gideons and had a DEEP passion to find a church to speak in every Sunday that he could organize for bible studies and collected bible donations. Willard and family attended two churches his adult life with first one at Daytona Heights Baptist in Red Bank and moved the family letter to the secon one at Hixson First Baptist.

Willard is followed by his Honorable Christian wife of over 65+ years, Jo Ann Barger Johnson, who was raised and graduated from Dayton High School, Dayton, Tn. Jo Ann known as (Sugar at all times) served as a Gideon Axillary; same camp.

Children who followed are Teresa Martino Lerner from Nashville; deceased son, Willard Timothy Johnson from Chattanooga who passed on Jan. 6, 2022; The youngest child Paul Stephen Johnson from Frankfort, Kentucky; grandchildren, Anthony W. Martino of Hixson, Joseph V. Martino II from Hixson, and Ashton Nicole (Johnson) Lucas from North Vernon, In. There were many brothers and sisters; and brother and sisters- in-law, uncle and aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren, not to list all, but were always special to Willard and Jo Ann Johnson.

Visitation will be at the Lane Funeral home at 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, starting on Monday, Sept. 25, from 4-8 p.m. Visitation will also be on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from noon until the service at 2 p.m. in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson, for all family and friends.

In leu of flowers, Willard would be honored to have those love gifts be issued to the attention of Lane Funeral Home address above where their staff will collect those love gifts to be issued properly for the Gideon North Hamilton County Camp to buy more bibles.
