Charlene Jacqueline Dorris, 83, was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on May 25, 1940, to the late Charlie A. Crutcher and Edith Bedell Crutcher. She peacefully entered into rest on September 19, 2023.

Charlene was known for her love for God and family. She was the fifth child of 13 siblings. Charlene loved family gatherings and she was always the last one to show up; she gladly wore the title, “always late”. She loved every person that she met and made each person feel like they were the only one in the room.

Charlene was a dedicated and faithful member of Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Church for over 30 years. During her membership, she enjoyed working for the Lord in various capacities, such as vice president of the women’s ministry, Sunday school teacher, and in the prayer ministry. She was a loyal supporter of the mission field in Jamaica, founded by her Pastor, Suffragan Bishop Norma V. Smith.

Charlene was a dedicated and loving wife. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Herman H. Dorris; parents, Charlie A. Crutcher and Edith Crutcher; siblings, Rosetta Holiday, Mary E. Pasley, Charlie W. Crutcher, James E. Crutcher, Ernest M. Crutcher, and Louise Partridge Crutcher.

Charlene leaves her legacy to her children, Melisa (James) Foster, Nellie Regina Dorris, Derrick (Gaylin) Dorris, and Quinton (Erica) Dorris; siblings, Geneva Crutcher, Nellie Crutcher, Bobby (Barbara) Crutcher, David Crutcher, Phillip Crutcher, and Clarence Crutcher; sister-in-law, Anna Church. She also leaves to cherish her life and memories to her grandchildren, host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and many spiritual sons/ daughters and friends.

The bible says in James 1:12 (ESV) Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him.

She will be greatly missed by all who was blessed to know her.

Public viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, at Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Church, 400 Tunnel Blvd., followed by a 11 a.m. funeral service. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
