Douglas "Trey" Allen Thomas III, 21, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023.

Born on Nov. 30, 2001 in Chattanooga, Trey was raised in Ooltewah. In 2020 he moved with his family to Ringgold, after a tornado destroyed their home.

Trey was the second of four children. He grew up with both of his sisters before finally getting a baby brother at the age of 17. Along the way, at eight years old, he became an uncle to his niece Sophia whom he adored. He often doted on her or showed off things she had made him.

After graduating from Ooltewah High School he would go on to get his certification in Diesel Mechanics. He had a passion for all things trucks and automobiles.

He returned to school once again to get his HVAC certification following in his father’s footsteps.

He enjoyed his employment with Larry’s Heating & Air and was known for his HVAC talents well beyond his years- thanks to years of going to work with his Dad and learning hands on.

Trey truly enjoyed life, spending time with his family, listening to good music, 4-wheeling and mostly helping others. He had a reputation for always being there for friends, family, and even helping out strangers if he could.

Trey was a kind and sweet soul who wore his heart on his sleeve. Good to the core, he was a jack-of-all trades with endless talents; eager to learn anything he was known to be trustworthy, dependable, compassionate, loyal and kind; and an even better listener. He was the best friend you could ever hope for. Trey was an old soul, and had wisdom and capabilities of a man beyond his years and a love for his family he was always sure to show.

He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Trey was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, (his namesake), Douglas Allen Thomas I; beloved aunt, Kelly Thomas Ellis; and cousin, Nichole Ingram Dawson.

He is survived by his parents, Douglas Allen II and Deanne Owens Thomas; sisters, Courtney and Emily Thomas; brother, Bentley Thomas; niece, Sophia Thomas; paternal grandmother, Eleanor Blevins Thomas; maternal grand parents, John W. and Debbie Sallach Owens; aunts, Beverly Thomas and Candace Layne; cousins, Michelle (Adiel) DeLeon, Meagan Sloan, Jeremiah Layne, Olivia Israel, Lillianna Herrera, Lee & Lexi Dawson and Anna and Isaac DeLeon; his girlfriend, Emma Miles (the two of them were over the moon for one another and had many plans for their future together).

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Ooltewah-Ringgold Road with Brother David Avery and Brother Bob Neal speaking. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Eric Knecht, Candace Layne, Jeremiah Layne, Allen Thomas, Kendrick Harris, and Kaelib Rodriguez serving as pallbearers.
