James William “J.W.” Coker
James William “J.W.” Coker, 89, of LaFayette, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lee Coker and Faye Belle Wooten Coker; infant brother, Stevie Coker, sister, Barbara Huggins; brother-in-law, Joel Huggins; and a nephew, Andy Huggins.
J.W. was a dedicated member of the Center Grove Baptist Church in Rock Springs, Ga. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Seoul, Korea. He was previously employed with the Brock Candy Company, Barwick Mills and retired from Reichhold Chemical with 19 years of dedicated service.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlott Brown Coker; a son, Stanley (Carla) Coker; a daughter, Kimberly Coker (Vernon) White; grandchildren, Brittney White (Josh) Brown, Spencer (Mollie) White, Dominick Coker, and Alexander Coker; brother, Bucky (Joan) Coker; and sister, Glenda (Johnny) Noblitt. Many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
The service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 3:00 p.m. in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Brown and Rev. Jim Powell officiating.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, in the Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.
Chosen pallbearers are Spencer White, Alexander Coker, Dominick Coker, Marcus Coker, Josh Brown, and Nicholas Walker.
The family wishes to offer their thanks to special friends, Donna Lang, Angel Dover, and Addison Wheeler, Gary and Sally Fortenberry, Tapestry Hospice, and, their church family at Center Grove Baptist Church.
