The Chattanooga men’s and women’s cross country teams are on the road this weekend for the prestigious 22nd Louisville Cross Country Classic hosted by Live in Lou. The event is held Saturday, September 30 at the Tom “E.P.” Sawyer State Park.
“We are looking forward to competing this weekend,” Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. “This is probably the kids' favorite race of the year. The course is very fast, and the conditions are set up for great times with the weather and all the national caliber teams that are in the race.”
The men will compete in the Blue Division with a 10:45 a.m. start to their 8-kilometer race while the women’s 5K in the Blue Division begins at 11:30 a.m.
The men’s race features 31 teams. The men will face competition from instate foes Tennessee Tech and UT Martin as well as Louisville, Jacksonville State, Wright State and Southern Conference foe Western Carolina.
Western Carolina is also in the women’s Blue Division race along with Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, North Alabama, UNC Asheville as well as Morehead State.
“We will also get to see a few of our conference opponents in Samford and ETSU, both ranked in our south region as well as Western Carolina,” Meyer said.
“The kids have trained well the last few weeks and as a team, we are getting healthier and the minor things that have limited our mileage have disappeared as the season has progressed, so we are looking to compete hard.”
Live scoring is available for the meet on the cross country schedule pages at GoMocs.com. Awards will be presented to the top two men’s and women’s teams and special awards will be given to the Top 25 finishers in each race.
