Neglect Rolls On At Soddy Daisy Post Office - And Response

  • Friday, January 26, 2024

What exactly will it take to get local and federal officials to clean up the Soddy Daisy Post Office? I’ve had no mail in 10 days. None. Packages? Don’t make me laugh, they’ve been missing since just after New Year’s Day with no hope in sight.

Like many, if you drive by the Soddy Post Office, you’ll clearly see piles of packages and other mail debris strew all over under weatherworn tents. The excuses parroted by those with some sort of relationship to the post office range from the place being understaffed, or hit with the flu all the way up in excuse-land to telling me the weather is now to blame. Not snow….but too much rain?

Even more troubling, why are officials not remedying this? What will it take to get this cleaned up?

Mr. Thomas,

I completely agree with you, and cannot fathom the decay in quality and service delivery in nation’s postal service.

For five years, I have filed complaints through the online USPS complaint system, written letters to the Nashville USPS District Office, and presented my concerns to the Soddy Daisy USPS manager which is an exercise in futility. It is wonderful that citizens are starting to become vocal about the pervasive decay of the Soddy Daisy USPS.

We remedied our mail problems by renting a post office box in another local zip code that functions in a more professional manner with reliability.  We were spending too much time trying to resolve service failures with our mail.

It is just a fact that the dysfunction of the Soddy Daisy USPS is not a seasonal problem.  The notion we all should be patient for years, rather than recognize the operational failure of this office has no season is unicorns in the forest wishful thinking.

I am really concerned as a small business operator in the 37379 zip code about the impact poor postal service has on commerce and businesses losing time chasing down mail and packages. If I have to chase down mail, I am losing work hours.

I have contacted Amazon to ask that my standard delivery be upgraded to UPS, and offered to pay more.  Doing the financial math, considering my time is money, it would be a huge cost saver to pay for reliability and remove the USPS from all facets of deliverable packages.  Fortunately, most regular mail using USPS can be avoided with electronic methods.

Perhaps, the USPS is an antiquated from days gone by, and the private sector would be a better option for the public.  Afterall, does the USPS exist for the workers, it exists solely to benefit citizens.

USPS, perhaps your day is done and the citizens would be better served by a private option.  We should start a group to deal with the adverse impacts of Soddy Daisy USPS dysfunction, such as critical medications.

Write on,
