Charles David Morgan
Charles David Morgan, 62, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, at Memorial Hospital.
Born on Dec. 28, 1961, to Robert “Sonny” and Catherine Louise Morgan, he grew up in Chattanooga’s Spencer J. McCallie Homes, where he honed his remarkable athletic skills. At a young age, Charles confessed Christ as Lord over his life, and later, during his time at Life Care Center of Collegedale, he renewed his faith.
Known for his infectious smile and warm personality, Charles became one of Tennessee's greatest defensive linemen. After graduating from Howard High School in 1980, he attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Fayetteville State University. One of Charles’ notable achievements was during the 1980 Vols vs. Crimson Tide game. He made three jaw-dropping tackles, one a sack, that earned him the ABC-TV Defensive Player of the game. After returning to Chattanooga, Charles enjoyed a fulfilling career with The Boys Club of Chattanooga, working in Alton Park and Boone-Hysinger locations. Charles shared his love for sports by coaching inner-city youth. His second notable achievement came when he led his baseball team in the Ringgold Recreation League to an undefeated season. His legacy of leadership, mentorship, and unwavering faith continues to inspire all who knew him.
