Chattanooga Mocs senior Carson Johnson put in his best career work in the fall finale at the Steelwood Collegiate this past weekend. That was recognized Wednesday with his first Southern Conference Golfer of the Week recognition.

A former Signal Mountain High School standout, Johnson posted new career bests for 18, 36 and 54-hole scores over his two days at Steelwood Country Club.

“It’s cool to see CJ get recognized for some solid play this week,” Coach Blaine Woodruff said. “He’s vowed to make sure he doesn’t leave here with any regrets about wishing he would have done more. He’s been working his tail off, and we’re pumped to see him have his best finish as a Moc.”

It started with a 3-under 69 in Saturday’s opening 18 before following right up with 71 for 4-under 140 on day one. He came back with 74 on Sunday to finish at 2-under, 214.

His three cards included three eagles and eight birdies over the 54 holes. It was his most complete performance in blue & gold.

This is the second such award for the Mocs in as many events. Sophomore Camden Braidech claimed the honor after winning the Qubein Cup earlier in October.

The Mocs return to the tee in January traveling to southern California for the Southwestern Invitational at Sherwood Country Club.
