Covenant Runners Earn PR's at Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker

  • Monday, December 9, 2024

Indoor Track and Field began this past Friday for the Covenant College Scots and they traveled a few hours south for the Birmingham Indoor Icebreaker.

Despite this being the first meet of the year, Covenant didn't waste any time as it had a few student-athletes break indoor school records.

In the first meet of her senior year, Emma Christensen competed in three events, the 60m, the Long Jump, and the Shot Put. Her results were a time of 8.43 in the 60m, a jump of 4.52m in the Long Jump, and a throw of 6.77m in the Shot Put.

Freshman Josephine Swinburnson had a strong performance in her first collegiate meet which included a school-record jump in the Long Jump of 4.67m. She also led Covenant's sprinters in the 200m (28.34) and the 400m (1:05.17).

Sophia Wiersema broke the school record in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.96m.
In the Pole Vault event, Sarah Holler started off her senior campaign with a throw of 2.65m, which is second-best in school history.

Daehla Smith, another senior for the Scots, competed in three events. She ran the 200m in 28.67, the 400m in 1:08.10, and posted a jump of 4.18m in the Long Jump.

Evangelia Berry (11:15.09), Emerson Tillery (11:29.20), and Greta McLean (12:38.55) were Covenant's distance runners in the 3000m.

Kali Hina was Covenant's lone participant in the 1 Mile, posting a time of 6:41.80.
Freshman Kenzi Stapleton began her track career with a time of 3:29:38 in the 1000m. She became the first runner in school history, according to our record books, to compete in this event.

In the men's competition, leading a group of four runners for the Scots in the 3000m was Josiah Mellott with a time of 8:54.21 for a new school record. John Purtill (9:40.14), Samuel Harrelson (9:51.73), and Aidan DeVries (10:06.03) also raced in this event.

Ethan Saiki was Covenant's lead runner in the 1 mile, posting a time of 4:34.82. Chandler Lines (4:45.11), Jacob Howington (4:55.11), and Andor Agustsson (5:07.58) were Covenant's other runners in the event.

Ethan Caswell (2:48.26), Alex Burns (2:53.65), and Jack Dupree (2:47.41) , like Stapleton on the women's side, became the first runners in school history, according to our record books, to race in the 1000m event.

Freshman Codey Parrish, in his first collegiate meet, had the second-best throw in school history in Shot Put with a throw of 10.62m.
