UTC Tennis Teams Drop 4-3 Matches

The Chattanooga Mocs women’s tennis team suffered a tight 4-3 road loss at in-state opponent Lipscomb on Sunday afternoon in Nashville, Tenn., during non-conference action.

Following the loss, Chattanooga drops to 4-5 on the season. Lipscomb remains perfect at 6-0 after the hard-earned victory.

Chattanooga earned a 1-0 lead after doubles play following wins at No. 1 and No. 3 before the match at No. 2 went unfinished. The Mocs posted a 6-1 win at No. 1 behind the efforts of Rozalie Dohnalova and Alice Hall and a 6-4 win at No.

3 behind the tandem of Madlena Orlova and Emma Pedretti.

UTC took a 2-1 lead in the match with a win from Alice Hall (6-4, 6-2) at No. 5 after dropping the match at No. 4. It was the Bison who earned wins at No. 2 and No. 1 following Pedretti’s win at No. 6 to tie the match at 3-3. The No. 3 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 comeback win for Lipscomb proved to be the difference and clinched the 4-3 win.

Chattanooga (4-5) returns to action Saturday, February 17, with a home match against Troy. Match location and time will be confirmed and finalized at GoMocs.com leading up to first serve.

 The Chattanooga Mocs men’s tennis team battled itself down to the final singles match, but ultimately dropped a tight 4-3 loss to in-state foe Belmont on Sunday afternoon inside the Strang-Voges Tennis Center at McCallie School.

Following the defeat, Chattanooga drops to 2-5 on the young season during non-conference action. Belmont picked up its first win of the season and is now 1-3 on the year.

Chattanooga took a 1-0 lead after doubles play with the point coming down to the final match at the top No. 1 slot. UTC earned a win at No. 3 to even doubles play after dropping the match at No. 2 before claiming the team point with a 6-2 win courtesy of the top tandem of Peyton Gatti and Jaxon Lamb.

In singles, the two teams exchanged wins with Belmont starting things with a win at No. 2 before Lamb capped off a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6 to give the team a 2-1 lead. Belmont posted a win at No. 3 ahead of Ethan Carr’s 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 5 to put UTC ahead 3-2 and find themselves one point away from a clinch.

Belmont buckled down in the match’s final two battles and came away with a comeback 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 4 position before earning another comeback win, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4, at the top singles pairing to claim the match, 4-3.

 

Chattanooga (2-5) returns to action on Friday, February 16, with a home match against another in-state foe in Lipscomb. Match time and location will be confirmed, dependent on weather, ahead of the match on GoMocs.com. Please check the schedule page for the most updated information.
