Lois "MeeMee" Hamilton Payton, 87, is finally home! On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, surrounded by her children, she went into the presence of her Lord and Savior.

Lois was born in Columbia County, Augusta, Ga., on Sept. 9, 1936, to Clinton and Neallie Walden Hamilton. She met and married the love of her life, Ronald Payton, in 1956 while attending Tennessee Temple School, Chattanooga. They later moved to Tempe, Az., where they raised four children. Lois returned to the Chattanooga area in 1979. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and openly shared her faith with everyone she met and served many as a devoted and loving caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clinton and Neallie Walden Hamilton; two sisters, Elaine Hamilton and Mildred Hamilton Lange, three brothers, Hugh Hamilton, Leonard Hamilton, Robert ‘Eddie’ Hamilton; sister-in-loves, Sue Hamilton, Bootsie Hamilton, Betty Hamilton; nephew, Johnny Lee Hamilton, and niece, Deanna Dickerson Day.

She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they brought her great joy and laughter. She was lovingly called ‘MeeMee’ by her grands and all who knew her.

Survived to cherish her memory are her children, Joy (Michael) Brown, Andrea (Merrill) Russell, Ronda (David) Lyons, R. Mark (Lisa) Payton; grandchildren, David (Summer) Brown, Jonathan (Erika) Brown, Steven Russell, Lexi Russell (Josh) Eakins, Marcus (Rachel) Lyons, Abigail Lyons, Payton Lyons, Hunter (Alley) Payton and Megan Payton. Great Grandchildren, Sawyer, Silas and Sadie Brown; Kallie and Avery Brown; Cohnan, Brayden and Ainsley Russell; Mac and Cruzie Lyons, Beau and Boone Payton; Sister, Joyce Hamilton Dickerson and brother-in-love, George Dickerson, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Lifecare of Collegedale and Hearth Hospice, and special thanks to Whitney Shelton for their loving care of our mother.

A private family Celebration of Life service will be held on Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. at Brainerd Baptist Church-BX.
