TVA, EMJ Construction, and Terracon are sponsoring the 2024 ACE (Architecture, Construction and Engineering) Mentor Program Awards Banquet. This year’s event will be held on Feb. 29 at the Construction Career Center and will feature local student presentations on a conceptual mixed-use program project for 613 Broad Street in Chattanooga.
Students from 12 area high schools will present conceptual designs for the site, including a program, budget, floor plans, exterior elevations and models, considering the site’s historical context, connectivity and other needs for Chattanooga.
The design competition will be judged by EMJ Vice President of Construction Trey Hall, Sydney Smith, Urban Designer with the Chattanooga Design Studio, and David Rappoport with Compass Commissioning and Design.
In addition to the design competition, the ACE Mentor Program, with the support of industry sponsors, will award $30,000 in scholarships to students planning to pursue building industry career development post-high school.
ACE is a no-cost after-school program that prioritizes workforce development for high school students by connecting them with experts from the design and construction industry. The nonprofit operates with the mission to “engage, excite and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering and construction through mentoring and continued support for their advancement into the industry.” Locally, the Southeast Tennessee and North Georgia affiliate has operated since 2009 and reached over 600 students at 20 area high schools.
