Minnie Edmonds Smith, 84, formerly of Chattanooga, was known by many names by many people who loved her most - Minnie, Baby Ray and Aunt Minnie, Ms. Minnie - but most of all her favorite was Mom and Granny. After tirelessly making the world a better place, Minnie finally rested on the evening of February 7, 2024, at her Cartersville, Georgia residence.

Behind her, she leaves a unique and unmatched legacy of love, kindness and humor on everyone she touched. She was a faithful and attentive member of Prospect Baptist Church, The Avondale Association: Wheeler Avenue Neighborhood Watch, and the Chattanooga Citizen Police Academy.

Minnie was born in Eutaw, Al., on July 12, 1939, to the union of the late Willie James Edmonds, Sr. and Birtha Mae Williams. She was the third of 10 children who were blessed to this union. She was baptized at an early age in Bessemer, Al. She was educated through the Bessemer City School System and graduated from Dunbar High School Class of 1957. She was very active in sports. After graduating, Minnie moved to Chattanooga, to study Cosmetology. She was a highly accomplished, licensed cosmetologist for well over 50 years.

During her education, she met and married Glen Smith on June 29, 1958, to that union one daughter, Gwendolyn Denise, was born. Minnie loved our LORD Jesus Christ, her family, her flowers, and the Atlanta Falcons, her favorite football team.

Minnie was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Glen Smith; her brothers, Willie J. Jr., Phillip J. (Swannee), Willie L., Augusta L, Cornell, and David L.

Those left to cherish her memories are daughter, Gwendolyn (Michael) Fletcher; stepdaughters, Phoebe Fields and Deidre Anderson; two granddaughters, Ebonee (Demingus) Copeland and Rashauna Hammonds; great-grandchildren, Tyreon Davis, Mekhi Gibson, Camren Fields, Emory Hooks, and London Copeland; sisters, Birtha (Curtis) Burston of Chattanooga, Vasti (Odis Jones) McFerrien of Birmingham, AL, and Lula (Teresa) Peterson of Bessemer, AL; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Edmonds of Pleasant Grove, AL and Jerilyn Edmonds of Ft. Worth, TX; five step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; special friends, Rosetta Harden and Henry Dudley.

Minnie will lie in state on Friday, Feb. 16, from 12-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at Prospect Baptist Church with Pastor Lance Dorsey as the eulogist.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
