The Chattanooga softball team turned four double plays Sunday afternoon in a 2-0 loss to UT Martin (7-1) in the final game of the Frost Classic at Frost Stadium.

In the first inning with two on base, UT Martin’s Katie Dreiling grounded into a 6-4-3 double play. With runners at first and second in the third, Jordyn Husty hit back to the pitcher. Riley Lamb threw to Kaili Phillips at third to get the lead runner out and then to Kendall Forsythe covering first for the second out of the inning.

Olivia Lipari made a diving stop at second to start a 4-6-3 double play.
Hustey grounded to second. She flipped the ball out of her glove to Kailey Snell and on to Forsythe to end the fifth.

Hustey grounded into a third double play, hitting toward third. Phillips fired off to Lipari for the out at second and Forsythe grabbed the throw to first to end the seventh.

Four double plays ties a program record set in the Southern Conference Tournament on May 7, 2015 against Western Carolina.

Chattanooga made a push in the bottom of the last inning but fell short with a throw out at the plate to end the game. With one out, Anna Dovey came in to pinch hit for Abi Pikas and took first on a hit by pitch. Pikas reentered the game to run after Snell moved Dovey to second with a single through the left side.

With two outs, Lipari singled to the pitcher and Snell moved over to second. Pikas made it to third and was thrown out at home to end the game.

Snell went 2-for-3 in the lead-off spot while Lipari, Camryn Cernuto, Forsythe and Pikas each tallied on hit. Riley Lamb went all seven innings in her second start. She struck out four and walked four while both runs were earned.

The Skyhawks put runs on the board in the second and sixth innings to improve to 7-7 overall. The first run in the second scored on a single to short. In the sixth, a single up the middle scored a second run.

Chattanooga, 9-7 on the year, hit the road to the Central Arkansas Tournament beginning Friday and concluding Sunday before returning home for a single game against Georgia State on March 5 at Frost Stadium.
