U.S. Navy Veteran Held Long Career With Combustion Engineering

Jimmy Phy Salmons, 93, of Rossville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 30, 2024.

He was born on Feb. 7, 1931, in Cleveland, Tn., to the late James A. and Nina Salmons.

Jimmy graduated from Rossville High School and soon after entered the United States Navy during the Korean War. After the war, he worked for many years for Combustion Engineering in the Security Department.

He was a faithful member of the Greens Lake Road Church of Christ and enjoyed worshipping there.

One of his main hobbies was genealogy and he fully researched and documented his family tree.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mildred Elizabeth “Billie” Salmons and his four brothers, Robert, John, Allison, and Thomas.

Survivors include sons, Brian (Laurie) Salmons, and John (Debra) Salmons. Three grandchildren Holly Salmons, Logan (Brandon) Hardin, and Dylan (Christen) Salmons and four great grandchildren, Grayson, Ryan, Elizabeth, and Maren and dear friend, Dana Loveridge. As well as, brother-in-law, William Joe Mullican and his wife Sheri and children Melanie and Joseph.

A private graveside service with veteran honors will be held at Knoxville National Cemetery in June.
